Capucine Merle

“The durability and fragility of materials interest me because they are complementary. They balance. These notions evoke solidity, firmness and life, beauty.”

Capucine Merle is a Paris-based artist whose work navigates the delicate space between transformation, memory, and the passage of time. Through sculpture and installation, she assembles poetic landscapes that balance fragility and resilience, drawing from both natural and artificial materials.

Her practice revolves around cycles of decay and renewal, inspired by an ongoing fascination with what disappears and what remains. Influenced by her childhood in the French Alps, she incorporates organic forms—flowers, mold, and ephemeral textures—while also constructing hybrid materials that feel both familiar and speculative. Lately, she has explored the imagined tastes of materials, considering sensation as an emotional trigger.

Her immersive installations evoke fleeting moments, where scent, texture, and atmosphere intertwine. Playing with contrasts—softness and sharpness, delicacy and danger—Merle’s work invites quiet reflection on transformation and the unseen forces that shape our world.
