Alexandra Willis
“In a world that’s in such constant change and turmoil, it feels difficult for things to exist when everything around them is moving so quickly. The fact that the work exists and disappears quickly feels true to what I’m trying to capture right now.”
— EXCERPT FROM INTERVIEW (31.01.25)
Alexandra Willis is a Franco-British artist whose work explores balance, transformation, and the impermanence of materials.
Rooted in both science and art, her practice reflects a fascination with natural forces—gravity, equilibrium, and the invisible dynamics shaping our world. With a background in chemistry from Oxford, she brings an experimental approach to sculpture and installation, working instinctively with materials that shift over time. Willow, paper, and organic dyes frequently appear in her work, chosen for their sensitivity to the elements and their ability to exist in cycles of creation and decay.
Her installations often take on ephemeral forms, embracing fragility rather than resisting it. She repurposes and deconstructs materials, allowing them to evolve across multiple works. By working in this way, she challenges traditional ideas of permanence in sculpture, instead highlighting the delicate, transient beauty of the things that surround us.
